Diagnosis class

Diagnosis class

After studied everything about theory, it is the time to teach and put in practice what we learnt about the theory. it is going to be a good experience in which I'm going to have the opportunity with my other peers Gisselt, Luis, Iliana, Ingrid to know about the kids who are going to be part of some classes.

Objective from the diagosis class:

To know about the kids that will form part of  some classes that will impart from the students of Don Bosco University who are taking Teaching Practicum  I

Activities to develop in the diagnosis class:

Luis used the activity "hot potatoe"

Ileana used the activity:  "Saving my friend Peter"

Gisselt use the activity: "the balloons party"

I used the activity " telling a tale"

Finally, Ingrid used the activity "wool web"

Results of the diagnosis class

  • The purpose of the diagnosis class was to know how much the kids knew about English. As a result, they knew some things in English. For example, the color, numbers, some adjectives like: angry, happy, sad.
Knowing this helped us , to teach in the class that are going to develop each week because kids are not in zero level of English.

. The ages of the kids were between 6 to 9 years old. I thought that it was to be a little bit complicated to give them classes because not all of them can read or write. However, we learnt differents strategies to give them classes in order to participate all of them in the classes using kinesthetic, visual and auditory strategies.

We had ten minutes to develop each activity with the kids and fifty minutes in total.

When the class finished, we gave the kids some snacks.

My case of study

His name is Jhonatan, he is 8 years old. he participated in the

diagnosis class. However, we are going to know more

 about him later.

To conclude:

This diagnosis class was very useful for us because we could identify the background knowgdled that the kid had in order to prepar our lesson planns and give them class.

Class Number 5

My body

This was the last class of this period.

Teachers: Iliana, Juan Carlos

Vocabulary: Mouth, nose, tooth, teeth, eyes, ears, hands, feet, foot

Iliana started the class by singing the song as in the classes before.

In grammar form she used  Do you have a ... Yes, I do. No, I don't

Then she made the activity in which students

had to look for a letter that was in a ball in

order to put it in other place. She also asked

them, about the colors, about the topic studied

before "the family"

Next, she made the activity in which students

had to put the body parts in the correct place

 of the body.

Finally, it was the time for Juan Carlos.

He continue the class with the game " roll the dice" so here the students should identify the color and also the number that they had in the dice to take a picture that was in a piece of paper.

Then, he developed the next activity about"Simon says" in which they had to do what simon says like touch their nose.

Finally, he did the last activity. It was the song in which students danced and listened the part of the body and move the parts of the body. The kids were very happy with the song, they dance and moved the parts of the body that they learnt.

My case of Study

He really surprised me becasue he participated in all the activities without felt embarrassed, he denced, he touched his parts of the body. For example, his nose, eyes and he also was able to answers the questions.

I liked the way that he is improving because each class he has something new .

Things to Improve:

. Use the correct pronunciation of the words.

.Take into account the time of ecah activity.

Being more independent for their own activities to develop.

.Tone of the voice

Class number 4

Pets

Vocabulary: Dog, cat, Snake, rabbit, turtle, bird.

Grammar:  Do you have a ... Yes, I do. No, I

 don't

I feel happy to see the progress of the kids, how they are learning and how they are able to answer things that are related with the topic studied before. Thefore, how they are able to sing the songs, I like to see their progress.

This was the time to teach for Raúl and Juan.

As in the classes before, the class started with the first song that it is the"warm up"

Next, Juan started to introduce the class by giving the students vocabulary about animals. He used a power presentation. Some kids about the name of the pets.

The kids also spelling the name of the pets. Therefore, kids could use the phrases" Yes, I do. No, I don´t. They had to use the phrases mentioned before to say whether or not they liked a pet.

Finally, it was the time for Raúl.

He developed the activity in which the kids had to maka groups. The activity was"the activity was the sharks are coming" when the kids listened that phrase they how to ask " how many and then made groups"

I think that this activity was good. However, Raúl should modeling more in order to understand better the activity and the kids did not feel like lost in the activity. Moreover, If he were modeling or provided them more examples,  he should not have been used the Spanish.

My case of Study

He could participate in the class by identifying the different name of the pets, he had a knowledge about the topic because when he had to participate he could develop the activities with no problem .

Things to improve:

1. Take into account the time for ecah activity.

2. modeling more each activity for avoiding speak in Spanish.

3. Being enthusiastic

Class number 3

My family

During the third class kids  show more friendship with the other kids. In each class they know more and they reviwed the topics studied before.

In this class the teachers were Ingrid and Abigail!!

First, Abigail and Ingrid  song the song with the kids and most of them know the lyric of the song because they have been singing in the classes before.

Then, Abigail, started to teach the family members in a power presentation. Students had a knowdleg about the topic and they participate in the activity by identifying the members of the family and taking into account the numbers in which they were.

Then was the  turn of Ingrid. The kids work as a group on the floor by matching some words with some pictures.
Next,  kids had to create some family members using some sticks that she gave them. It was interesting how the kids designed the family members. Howerever, some of the kids did not understand what they had to do because some of them did not listen the instructions because they were very separated, and not all of them listened the intructions.

My case of study

Jonathan paaid attention, and developed the activities.  In all the activieties, he was able to do. What I have been noticied in him is that he understand, pays attention in the class but the problem is that he is shy but when he has to anwer or develop an activity he is able to do.

I like to see how he is progressing in each class, I consider that he is going to be able to particpate without feel embarrassed.

Things to improve:

.To be sure that all of them listened the instructions.

.To be more  enthusiastic

. Make sure that all of the students are working.

. Think about the aims of each activity.

Class number 2

At home

Vocabulary: Doll, teddy bear, car , bed, table.

Grammar: Where is the ...  It's on, under, in, behind.

This class was very exciting because Gisselt , Monica and  I had the opportunity to show what we have been learning through our career.

We were at 11 am in order to decorate the classroom for kids were in a great enviroment.

all the activities were planning, every single detail. the time that we had to spend in each activity in order to cover our lesson plan.

Class number 1

Class number  one

Welcome to the classroom

Vocabulary:bag, book,pen,pencil,ruler and eraser.

The students who developed that class were Luis and Gloria.

I consider that the first class is always a little bit difficjult because we are a little bit nervous about the activities to develop and also because we know that we are going to be evaluated. As a result, Luis and Gloria felt nervous in their first experience as teachers.

In the class were fiffteen students. The class started on time 1:15. Luis and Groria were veryhappy to develop the class even thouhg they were nervous for the first experience.

When Gloria and Luis developed their class student were nervous because they did not understand the instructions thet they gave them. Probably because the instructions were more advanced  for kids. I think that kids understand better by commands, movements and gestures than  instructions. That could happened with why the kids  did not understand the instructions. As a result, they did not pay attention to the class and some of them were distracted and they wanted to go to the bathroom in order to avoid doing the activities.

When the class finished, students enjoyed their snacks.!!!

Things to improve:

. Give commands to the kids instead of a lot of instructions.

.Use appropiate material.

My case of study

He was shy and confused during the whole class because by the instructions that were not clear. He did not understand what Luis and Gloria. Probably because he thought that thee teachers were going to give or explain the instruction in spanish as in the Diagnosis class.
I consider that we have to take into account activities in which we use the kinesthetic, visual and auditory strategies for kids enjoy and participate in the class and they do not feel bored.

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)

Attention Deficit Disorder  (ADD)

Most of the time we forget many things in the day. For example, take a shower, go to the supermarker, do the homework or take your pills. Those things can happen not only and adults but also in childs. Childs  can have daydream during class and act without think. That happend because the have  Symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder

"The signs and symptoms of ADD/ADHD typically appear before the age of seven. However, it can be difficult to distinguish between attention deficit disorder and normal “kid behavior.”

So in the before the age of seven you can identify if a child has symtoms of ADD/ADHD. Nevertheless, it is very difficul to identify because childs are hyteractive and do many things that you can probably think that they have symtoms of ADD/ADHD . These kids that have ADD cam be sometimes lazy and undiciplined. That is why they forget to do their homework and they can feel angry about everything that happed around them.

"Some children with ADD/ADHD are hyperactive, but many others with attention problems are not. Children with ADD/ADHD who are inattentive, but not overly active, may appear to be spacey and unmotivated".However, child with Attention defficit dissorder they try to concetrate in  the activities that they like or enjoy but no matter how they try to concentrate they are not able to do it because they have trouble focusing .Therefore, they try to do their best but they still having problems in paying attention in the class.

Children with ADD/ADHD may be:
  • Inattentive, but not hyperactive or impulsive.
  • Hyperactive and impulsive, but able to pay attention.
  • Inattentive, hyperactive, and impulsive (the most common form of ADD/ADHD).

Symptoms of inattention in children:

  • Doesn’t pay attention to details
  • Makes careless mistakes
  • Has trouble staying focused; is easily distracted
  • Appears not to listen when spoken to
  • Has difficulty remembering things and following instructions
  • Has trouble staying organized, planning ahead, and finishing projects
  • Gets bored with a task before it’s completed
  • Frequently loses or misplaces homework, books, toys, or other items

Hyperactive signs and symptoms of ADD/ADHD

The most obvious sign of ADD/ADHD is hyperactivity. While many children are naturally quite active, kids with hyperactive symptoms of attention deficit disorder are always moving.
They may try to do several things at once, bouncing around from one activity to the next. Even when forced to sit still which can be very difficult for them their foot is tapping, their leg is shaking, or their fingers are drumming.

Symptoms of hyperactivity in children:

  • Constantly fidgets and squirms
  • Often leaves his or her seat in situations where sitting quietly is expected
  • Moves around constantly, often runs or climbs inappropriately
  • Talks excessively
  • Has difficulty playing quietly or relaxing
  • Is always “on the go,” as if driven by a motor
  • May have a quick temper or a “short fuse”

Now that we know  about Attention Deficit Disorder  (ADD)  as teacher and probably some of us parents we have to pay attention to the behavior of the children because they can have symptoms of  Attention Deficit Disorder  (ADD). We have to be patient with this kids because they try to the best in everything that they try but they are not able to do.
